Privacy policy

Sleeping Giant Sound (“we”, “I”) is a mobile DJ and sound equipment rental business in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This policy explains what personal information I collect through sleepinggiantsound.ca, why, and your choices. It is written to follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The person responsible for privacy at Sleeping Giant Sound is Matthew Ongaro, owner, reachable at bookings@sleepinggiantsound.ca.
What I collect
Information you give me
When you use the Book Now or rental request forms, or email or call, I collect what you choose to share: your name, email, phone number, event type, date, venue or town, guest count, how you heard about us, your message, and for rentals, the items requested, dates and a delivery address. For rentals I also check photo ID and keep a signed rental agreement.
Information collected automatically
With your consent, analytics tools collect information about how the site is used: pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, approximate location (city level), device and browser type, how you found the site, and page-speed measurements. This is used in aggregate and is not used to identify you.
Why I use it
- To reply to your enquiry, check availability, and send quotes, agreements and invoices
- To plan and deliver your event or rental
- To keep business, tax and rental records as required by law
- To understand which pages are useful and improve the website
I don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I don't use it for advertising.
Cookies and analytics
When you first visit, a notice asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you choose “Essential only”, no analytics cookies are set. Google Analytics may still receive basic, cookieless signals (such as a page view with no identifier) under Google's Consent Mode, and Microsoft Clarity does not load at all. You can change your choice any time:

Clarity masks form inputs and sensitive text by default. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with Google's browser add-on.
Service providers
I use a few trusted providers to run the business. They process information on my behalf and may store it outside Canada (mainly the United States), where it may be subject to local laws:
- Netlify: website hosting and form submissions
- Google Workspace: business email
- Google Analytics: website analytics
- Microsoft Clarity: website usability analytics
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don't turn into a booking are deleted within 24 months. Booking and rental records (agreements, invoices, ID verification notes) are kept as long as needed for tax and legal purposes, generally up to 7 years. I don't keep copies of ID documents after the rental is returned.
Keeping it safe
Information is stored in password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication, and access is limited to me.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or withdraw your consent (for example, to future emails) at any time by emailing bookings@sleepinggiantsound.ca. I'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update the date at the top of this page.
